Regional Director for West Africa
Diawary Bouare is CARE USA’s Regional Director for West Africa. Diawary brings nearly 30 years of experience in the field of international humanitarian and development management, including nearly twenty years of progressively responsible experience with CARE. Since joining CARE in Mali 1997, Diawary has held a progression of senior management and leadership positions, ranging from project manager, sector coordinator, country representative, assistant country director for program quality, country director and regional director in a variety of assignments across Africa and Asia.
Prior to CARE, Diawary spent 10 years working in program and organizational management with AMADE (Association Malienne pour le Developement), one of the pioneers and now largest national NGO in Mali. He also served as a consultant for the World Bank, Economic Development Institute as a member of a task force that developed and implemented three pilot initiatives aiming to strengthen institutional capacity of community based organizations, NGOs and umbrella bodies in various West African countries, including Senegal, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.
Diawary possesses extensive leadership and management experience working across a diverse range of programs as well as collaborating closely with national, regional and international organizations, multilateral agencies, national and district governments, and public and private donors and organizations. He is currently based in Ghana and as regional director is responsible for program and operational activities in seven countries.
