| Project Name: | Strengthening Education Programs for Orphan and Vulnerable Children |

CARE Burundi is embarking on its first education project that hope to empower orphan and vulnerable children, especially girls affected by HIV/AIDS to exercise their right to a quality basic education in Ngozi province.
The project strategy consists of strengthening the capacity of selected local NGOs and CBOs to design appropriate interventions leading to OVC exercising their right to quality basic education.
The project has 5 objectives to be implemented within a 2-year period:
Objective 1: To increase OVC's attainment in ECD and in alternative primary school programs.
Objective 2:To improve the quality and relevance of education offered to OVC.
Objective 3: To improve gender equity by addressing special needs of girls.
Objective 4: To strengthen the technical, financial, and overall organizational capacities of local NGOs and CBOs to initiate, expand and implement sustainable activities aimed at meeting OVC's right to education.
Objective 5: To strengthen NGOs and CBOs working with OVC to better coordinate and network among themselves and advocate for the needs and rights of OVC.
The project plans to accomplish the following results:
Increased enrolment in ECD and in alternative primary school programs.
Increased retention in ECD and in alternative primary school programs.
Improved physical teaching/learning environment
Improved availability of quality learning/teaching materials
Improved teachers quality.
Increased girls'knowledge about the dangers of sexual and other abuses.
Increased girls' and parents awareness of various barriers to the girls enrollment and retention.
Improved technical capacities among participating NGOs and CBOs.
Improved financial capacities and resource mobilization
Improved overall organizational capacities of the NGOs and CBOs.
A policy dialogue is initiated to address the needs and rights of OVC. |
