| Project Name: | Livelihoods Consortium |
| Project Description: |
CARE, on behalf of a Consortium of four United States-based international Private Voluntary Organizations, Africare, CARE, Catholic Relief Services, and World Vision, submits this proposal to implement a Livelihood Security Initiative in Burundi from January 2005-September 2007. Burundi is currently emerging from 10 years of civil strife. For the last few years, there has been relative stability and large numbers of people that had been internally displaced or who had sought refuge outside the country are returning. The consortium will address new concerns that have arisen as populations return and peace is established. These are: on and off farm economic development, agricultural development, nutrition, with HIV/AIDS and conflict resolution as cross-cutting themes.
The Consortium will implement activities in the provinces of Kirundi, Karuzi, Gitega, and Muyinga. In addition the consortium will manage a research grant mechanism which will provide funds for research in land use and conflict throughout Burundi. |
