| Project Name: | West Hararghe Institutional Strengthening |
| Project Description: |
The West Hararghe Institutional Strengthening Project works together with the District Agricultural Developement Office(DADO) in Habro and Gubakoricha over the three year perod in an intensive partnership aimed at strengthening the current extension system and building its infrastructural capacity in the project area. In doing so the project will make considerable progress towards ensuring sustainability of activities in this sector long after CARE has left the area. The project has been prepared jointly by the intended partner, DADO.
Ultimately, the aim of the project is to enhance the District Agricultural Devleopment Office in Habro and Gubakoricha so that they can provide , sustainable agricultural extention services to farmers by the end of the project. This strategy will emphazize enhancing the ability of extention stafff to carry out the operational planning, monitoring and reporting activities in a standardized manner. In addition , technical skills will be strengthened as several key projects are implemented by the agricultural development office extention staffin the two districts in the same period.
As a major emphazis in the past has been on community participation and contribution for development projects, these aspects of programming will continue to be stressed as well. Communities should continue to understand the importance of participation and contribution in all projects, even those carried out by the Govt . The concept of community "ownership" remains important and therefore community participation should be encouraged by CARE and the District Agricultural Development Offices at all levels of programming.
CARE has now secured the required amount for implementing the three year project. |
