Project Information

Project Name:Urban HIV/AIDS Control and Prevention Project
Project Description:
CARE International in Ethiopia proposes to reduce the incidence of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS in one woreda of urban Addis Ababa through a three-pronged intervention that includes: 1) comprehensive communication for behaviour change to increase the practice of risk-reduction behaviours by women of reproductive age and their partners; 2) implementation, monitoring and evaluation of innovative and effective pilot voluntary conselling services; and 3) technical, management and financial support to local community-based and non-governmental organizations to reduce the soci-economic effects of HIV/AIDS on affected families. Project emphasis will be on collaboration and partnerships with the government, the Regional Health Bureau and community institutions and members. Project strategies and activities will be carefully documented in order to provide information for scaling-up and/or replication of approaches in other urban areas. With an approximate three million people already affected with the HIV/AIDS virus CARE is committed to acting.
