Project Information
| Project Name: | Community Investment Program (CIP-2) |
| Project Description: | |
| Significant benefits have accrued to the 77 communities along the pipeline corridor as a result of investment by BTC/SCP between 2003 and 2006, gains which can now be consolidated. An evaluation of CIP-1 suggested recommendations to increase the impact of CIP-2, and these have assisted CARE and its partners in articulating a project strategy that will maximize impact. CIP-2 has two major thrusts: An economic development strategy that includes: - Continuation of on-farm demonstration and extension services. - The creation or strengthening of agricultural groups/associations/service entities. - Business development for agricultural service groups. - Loans to individuals, producer and services groups, and off-farm entities. - Business start-up grants to young women. This will enable the project to improve farm output, marketing, and support off-farm sector growth. A civil society strengthening strategy that includes: - Continuation of leveraged grants for infrastructure rehabilitation to Community Based Organizations (CBO). - Computers installed and/or rehabilitated in secondary schools in five big towns. - Training of Boards of Trustees in secondary schools. - Establishment of ecology clubs in selected schools. - Expanding the coverage and impact of the Scouts movement in Georgia. - Funding for community initiatives in Rustavi (Blocks 18 and 19) | |
