The objectives for this project include: Consolidate democratic processes in 9 municipalities in the Occidente Region; Organize the Urban and Rural Municipal Councils in 9 municipalities of the Occidente Region; Strengthen the technical capacity of 9 local governments of the Occidente Region; Encourage civil participation in decision-making in 9 municipalities of the Occidente Region;(d) Participate in the institutional network that supports the transformation of the Urban and Rural Development Councils Law.
This project will be implemented in a focused geographic area, which includes two departments of the Occidental Region. We will be working in nine municipalities; five from the department of Quetzaltenango and four from the department of San Marcos, benefiting 266 communities, civil society groups and local governments.
The intervention strategies include: Working with partners-this project will be jointly implemented with other organizations that have begun actions in the domain of strengthening local governments and civil participation (Munik'at, NEXUS, INFOM, SEGEPLAN, RENICAM, Development Councils, PNUD, BID, FEMICA, and others); Creation of a Trust -- Creation of a revolving resource available to the participating municipalities of the project to act like a stabilizer of priority investment resulting from the civil dialogue - municipality, facilitating the step from identifying needs to the formulation of viable projects. |
