| Project Description: |
This project aims to create and strengthen Tele-secondary education centers, which use television and video materials, which provide formal education to youths in rural communities. Using a Mexican tele-secondary methodology, educational processes are promoted by trained tutors.
The project is implemented in the Joyabaj and San Pedro Jocopilas municipalities. Each year project beneficiaries are some 400 ethnic K'iche youths 13 years of age and older. A result will be a reduction in economic migration among the youth, as despite few development opportunities in their communities they stay to participate in the Tele-secondary. A door will be opened to these young children to continue their studies at a more advanced level or to develop functions to earn a living.
The intercultural bilingual educational specifically is created to respond to the educational needs of communities. Family parents help equip the centers, obtain electricity, provide security and establish administration and use policies for the centers. Teachers replicate trainings and share their acquired knowledge with community children.technology centers (CETEBIs) are centers that are equipped with computers, multimedia equipment, printers, scanners, photocopiers and software that enable users to create digital bilingual educational material. The CETEBIs focus on child and youth education. During primary education, the computers are also used to learn to read and write words in their native Mayan language. The CETEBIs are run by community teachers that are trained in the administration of the technology centers and technology use. The center administrators also learn to use Windows, to detect and resolve basic computer equipment problems and to use the educational software |
