| This project aims to fight malaria within four departments of Haiti. By 2009, through this project funded by global funds, CARE Haiti will contribute to a 10% decrease of the prevalence of malaria and to achieve a 0% mortality rate due to malaria in Haiti. Within the 4 departments targeted by CARE Haiti, strengthened institutional capacity to manage malaria cases at different levels within the health system as well as strengthened preventive measures at community level will result from training of health centers' staff and community health agents, testing and treatment of malaria cases at institutional and community levels, operationalization of a quality control system for epidemiological surveillance, IEC activities within schools, health centers and medias and promotion of impregnated bednets use, strengthened partnership and coordination with all the intervenants of the program. The project will be integrated with other health projects such as against tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS and will build upon the established networks to create a synergy among the existing projects. It will target pregnant women and the general population within 21 communities. That encompasses 48,594 pregnant women among the 1,214,851 inhabitants to be served under this project. |
