| CARE Haiti's Participatory Development Project (PRODEP) aims to improve the quality of life of 350,000 women and men in five rural communes of the Upper Artibonite and the Northwest of Haiti by January 2010. The capacity of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) will be strengthened as they will benefit from training in several key competencies for local development. Their members will participate at all levels of decision making in community affairs. Selected CBOs will implement several local development initiatives requested by the citizens of their respective communities. The initiatives are submitted first to the Council of the Participatory Development Project (COPRODEP) and then funded by PRODEP. The COPRODEP are integrated by local authorities, appointed women and men from local CBOs and community leaders. COPRODEP are holding regular meetings to set criteria for project submission, receive CBOs ready to present and discuss their proposals, review the quality of documents, monitor and evaluate the approved proposals during implementation. CARE will mobilize communities and provide the necessary technical and financial support to CBOs in order to ensure the implementation of financially and environmentally sound initiatives to facilitate access to markets, information and knowledge, increase production and generate income to reduce poverty for many inhabitants of the selected rural communes. |
