Project Name:PDLH-Local Development Project in Haiti
Project Description:
PDLH (Local Development Project in Haiti) has been designed to support local development of the town of Gros Morne. It aims to accompany the town of Gros Morne in its local development process to enhance local capacities of various actors to take charge of their own development and, in the long term, improve the living conditions of the population of this county. The project will build on three strategic pillars: 1) the empowerment of local actors so they can drive the actions and ensure its sustainability, 2) an approach to the emergence of a better citizenship recognized for all and 3) the development of economic and political potential through a process of local development dynamic. In order to ensure sustainability, some cross-cutting themes will be taken into account: the respect for the environment and its protection, HIV / AIDS and gender equality, particularly to ensure the representation and full participation of women and marginalized groups in decision-making structures. Given the importance of land management in a local development project, a particular focus will be given to ensure a strategic territorial planning. The project team will also ensure that the various components of the targeted land use planning are taken into account, such as the protection of vulnerable areas, adequate and sustainable management of forest cover, the use of practical agricultural best suited the vulnerability of ecosystems and the preparation plan participatory land use planning. Finally, the innovative aspect of the approach is to bring the initiative by a local authority. Thus, as a representative of the municipality, the Mayor will be the first responsible for the project jointly with the project director of CARE. This committee will validate the strategic choices of the project, the quality of interventions and approve disbursements for the implementation of development projects. CARE will be closely involved in the monitoring and evaluation of actions taken and the systematization of experience.
