Running Dry: Empowering Poor People to Manage Water seeks to provide about 20,000 poor pastoralists with sustainable access to safe water in four divisions of Garissa District in arid North Eastern Province of Kenya. The project targets children, women, and pastoralists through use of schools, health clinics, water points and market centers to reach its target beneficiaries.
CARE Kenya uses the Child-to-Child approach, intended to enable children to actively participate in the health development themselves, an adaptive learning method in which training and provision of safe water systems influences mothers with children who attend health centers and clinics, and a community mobilization process that engages women and men at water points.
CARE Kenya will provide Safe water and Sanitation packages that consists a) Point-of-use water treatment, b) Hand washing stations and soap, c) Safe storage water tanks, d) Hygiene education and e) a Sanitation Package to the target population. |
