| C-SAFE Food For Assets in Lesotho aims to increase and preserve productive assets among targeted vulnerable communities and households. The project will promote and assist families to develop household gardens and mentor farmers through all stages of home garden development (survying, planning, terracing, selection of plants, nutritional value, successional planting, water harvesting and resource conservation); identify and select individuals and households to participate in this program. By the end of the the year the project will have assisted resource poor and food security vulnerable households and individuals to set up and manage a livelihood resource in their form of a home garden. The project is targeting 5,000 households. Assuming the average size of six persons this translates into 30,000 beneficiaries. The project targets communities in the Senqu River Valley and southern districts of Mafeteng, Mohale's Hoek, Quthing and Qacha's Nek. The focus of the activities will be to enhance the productive assets of the household or community during an initial year of food for work and allow people to enhance their food security through diversified livelihoods resulting from the addition of home gardening and other activities in parts of the five districts. |
