| The SADI project ("Securité Alimentaire à travers le Développement de l'Irrigation" -- "Food Security through Irrigation Development"; "Sadi" means "congratulations on your work" in Fulfuldé, the majority language of the project zone) aims to improve the livelihood quality of 7500 households surrounding six submerged plains in Mopti Region by February 2011. By the end of the project, CARE Mali will increase annual rice production to 28,100 metric tons on 20300 hectares of land, and will develop sustainable income generating income activities with and for the local population. The project goal is that "by 2011, 7500 housholds in the projet zone will be organized to improve their livelihood security, increasing agricultural production and economic activities." The three project objectives are as follows: Objective 1 -- By 2011, increase annual average rice production of 6 plains to 28,100 metric tons through hydro-agricultural infrastructures for controlled submersion on 19,950 hectares and and 350 hectares in samll village-level irrigation permiters. Objective 2 -- By 2011, the organizational capacity of 12 inter-village associations (AIV) will be strengthened in order to promote a fair and equitable management of activities in project zones. Objective 3 -- By 2011, the economic capacity of members of village associations will be strengthened through savings and loan activities and inventory credit. | |
