PASANA works in three districts of Nampula Province with objectives similar to VIDA, described above, but with
a more emphasis on development of farmer organizatons and less on nutrition education. CARE implements PASANA in
partnership with OLIPA, a Mozambican NGO that specializes in the formation and development of producer marketing
associations. CARE's main role is to provide agricultural services that help members of farmer organizations produce
more crops that can be easily marketed. OLIPA's role is to develop the associations into viable organizations capable of marketing members' produce; this includes management and adult literacy training. In September 2003, this project
supported 188 farmer associations with 7,881 members (including 1,487 women) and 70 adult literacy groups with 2,291 members (including 1,121 women).
