| Local Initiatives For Health (LIFH) aims to develop innovative and sustainable models to resolve issues of poor health standards and conditions among poor rural communities. Interventions include: partnerships, networking and collaboration, capacity building and support for the improvement of health service delivery. The project promotes a rights-based approach, aims to make service providers accountable to communities, promotes transparency and information sharing with clients, and ensures community participation in service delivery decisions. Hope For African Children Initiative (HACI) CARE is part of the Hope for African Children Initiative (HACI), a community-based, pan-African effort established by leading humanitarian organizations -- CARE, PLAN International, World Conference on Religion and Peace, Save the Children/USA, the Society for Women and AIDS in Africa, and World Vision- to address the challenges faced by children orphaned and affected by AIDS in Africa. HACI presently has programs in Uganda, Kenya, Cameroon, Malawi, Mozambique, Ghana, Zambia and Senegal where it increases the capacity of communities to provide prevention, care, and support services to children and their families affected by HIV/AIDS. CARE is providing leadership to HACI on technical issues relating to monitoring and evaluation, livelihoods and micro finance/micro enterprise development, education for vulnerable children, communication andamp; advocacy, prevention of mother to child transmission, and food security. In Malawi, CARE implements field activities to: 1) develop and strengthen effective partnerships with organizations representing adolescents; 2) improve support systems, knowledge and skills that enable adolescents to adopt safe sexual practices; 3) strengthen the capacity and capability of health service providers; and 4) improve access to livelihood enhancement opportunities for adolescents. | |
