| The goal of this Project is to increase profits and wages in farms and non-farm businesses in the Leon-Chinandega livestock cluster through the expansion of higher-profit farm level activities and agribusiness. The proposed approach is twofold, 1) institutional coordination and capacity building to set up a sustainable and self-determining cluster, and 2) a three year 'shock' of technical assistance to demonstrate the potential in practice, both at the farm level where the majority of resources will be spent, and further downstream right to the final markets. A longer term perspective will also be incorporated to tackle the underlying genetic constraint facing the cluster, in the form of a private sector-led pilot genetic improvement program. | |
