| Project Name: | Potable water, sanitation and hygiene in rural communidties, Province of Melgar, District of Umachiri in the Department of Puno |

| The project is located in the Sora and Umasi Communities, district of Umachiri, Province of Melgar, Puno department in Peru. It will benefit 285 families in its first stage and 380 during 20 years of operation. It includes the building of two potable water systems for each community and 285 composting latrines. Potable water systems include: in Sora, 2 abstraction boxes, collecion and break pressure box, a 20 m3 reservoir, and 61760 m pipeline installation; in Umasi: two abstraction boxes, a collection box, a 17m3 reservoir and 42332m pipeline installation; and 285 household connections with water meters in both communities. Also, a training process for users will be developed during the first year and afterwards a monitoring program. The project will be managed by users through a water committee elected in an assembly. For installation, the Municipality of Umachiri, CARE Puno and users will provide additional funds. The Project will start operations during 2005, carrying potable water to 285 beneficiaries and using 285 composting latrines. |
