The Nkundabana Initiative for Psychosocial Support (NIPS) project proposes an innovative approach to address the most pressing needs of orphaned children and to help them in becoming autonomous members of society which are economically productive and contribute positively to peace and reconciliation in Rwanda. NIPS will work with 600 community mentors (Nkundabana) who will resume the role of a parental replacement to 3000 child headed households (CHH) and take care of the psychosocial, emotional and most urgent material needs of the children. NIPS is designed to maximise synergies with existing efforts to cater for needs of child headed households in Gitarama region and to nurture sustainable community efforts for wellbeing of weakest members of today’s Rwandan Society. NIPS is a three-year project.
