| Project Name: | Great Lakes Advocacy Group Initiative/Gender and Conflict |
| Project Description: |
| The Great Lakes Advocay Group (GLAG) comprises CARE Burundi, CARE DRC, CARE Rwanda and CARE Uganda, and was formed to facilitate region-wide advocacy on issues related to gender and conflict. The overarching goal of the current GLAG advocacy plan is to "reduce violence against women in the Great Lakes region through empowering women's groups at the local, national and regional levels in advocacy." The plan identifies three specific change objectives to be achieved over the coming two years: 1) CARE and its partners develop an in-depth understanding of the reasons that violence against women persists at the grass-roots level; 2) grass-roots associations supported by CARE and its partners are empowered to advocate against violence against women; and 3) CARE becomes a trusted partner with civil society organizations and others in national and regional advocacy initiatives against violence against women. This work made possible by a grant from CARE UK. |
