Project Name:CANADA Fund For Local Initiatives (CFLI)
Project Description:
The purpose of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) is to support community based development
initiatives targeted at the poor that also contribute to the peace-building process. CFLI concentrates broadly on
poverty reduction and social development and focuses on: 1) child and youth rights and protection; 2) health and
reproductive rights (to include HIV/AIDS, women's reproductive health, gender-based violence and other forms of sexual exploitation); 3) basic education; and 4) environmental protection. It funds small projects, initiated and managed at community level, which can lead to sustainable improvements in the livelihoods of disadvantaged groups and/or individuals. CARE is managing the fund for the Canadian government. Its role includes information dissemination on CFLI to local projects and organizations, providing assistance and advice as required to organizations/groups submitting proposals, reviewing proposals and identifying projects for possible funding. CARE also administers, monitors, evaluates and reports on approved projects.
