| CARE Sierra Leone's Malaria Outreach and Safety Initiative (MOSI) will distribute and socially market long-lasting insecticide treated bed-nets, build capacity of decentralized government health services, and promote behavior change at individual and household level. The project's goal is to decrease malaria related morbidity and mortality in the Northern Province, particularly amongst children under five and pregnant women. This goal is in support of the MoHS National Strategic Plan for Malaria Control in Sierra Leone 2004-2008 which aims to reduce malaria morbidity and mortality among under fives by 25% and to reduce malaria morbidity and mortality among pregnant women by 35% by the end of 2008. The project targets 130,000 pregnant women and children under the age of five for malaria prevention measures and health service providers for capacity building. MOSI will be carried out in the Koinadugu, Tonkolili and Bambali Districts of the country. |
