Project Description:
CARE El Salvador's Agribusiness Centers project (Centros de Agronegocios) aims to increase the income generation capacity of 1,320 agricultural producers, 15 producer associations and 45 enterprises through the development of successful agribusiness plans by September 2007. With this in mind, CARE El Salvador will run five agribusiness centers under contract with the Ministry of Agriculture of El Salvador, in the departments of Ahuachapan, Santa Ana, La Libertad, Usulutan and San Miguel, which will directly provide education in business administration topics and technical assistance to the beneficiaries. To date (Sep07) CARE has reached 12,855 producers of whom 3856 are women; with it CARE has indirectly benefited 64,275 household members of these producers. They’ve also achieved that 26 local organizations and 500 individual participants will benefit from the link to the market place and were strengthened through the development of business plans; and moreover 150 persons in leadership positions in these organizations have been helped by this project, strengthening their abilities. CARE El Salvador will also insure that by September 2007 the five business centers will be self-sustainable and can therefore be transferred to local partners (local NGOs, private sector or public-private associations)for their administration.
