Project Information

Project Name:Production Opportunities for Small Rural Producers (PRORURAL)
Project Description:
CARE El Salvador's PRORURAL project aims to increase the income generation capacity of rural families through the development of sustainable business ventures by October 2009. With this in mind, CARE El Salvador will carry out a competitive bid process to identify and finance high-impact and sustainable business projects, which generate successful alliances between local NGOs, producer associations and socially responsible companies. CARE El Salvador will also insure that by October 2009 the business ventures will be self-sustainable and can therefore be transferred to local partners (local NGOs, private sector or public-private associations) for their administration.
PRORURAL's main objective is to help improve the quality of life of families that live in rural areas by creating economic opportunities for poor, marginalized, and excluded productive groups in El Salvador. The purpose of PRORURAL is to create an instrument that poor groups can use to compete for nonreimbursable financing for production-oriented projects that will improve their standard of living.
The project beneficiaries will be productive groups living in poverty, marginalization, and/or social exclusion in the country's rural areas. Those groups can present their initiatives through nongovernmental organizations established as community improvement associations, foundations, or nonprofit associations, cooperatives, or any other legal entity that represents them.
