The project aims to empower communities and individuals in Somalia to make decisions that lead to the abandonment of FGM. The project has three intermediate objectives which are (1) increased knowledge and awareness of communities on the negative health, religious, social and cultural implications on FGM on women and girls in the community. (2) increased capacity of community based organiztion (CBOs), community groups, religious leaders and regional administrations to develop strategies and educate target communities. (3) increased capacities of local NGOs and relevant governa,net Ministries in Somaliland to Suppot community initiatives on abandonment of FGM.
Due to the social cultural and political environment in Somalia, CARE Somalia proposes to network with the SACB FGM taskforce in Nairobi, Religious leaders, regional administrators, women groups and youth groups and in so doing contribute to abandonment of the FGM |
