Project Name:The Sool Plateau Livelihood and Food Security Project
Project Description:
The two years Sool Plateau Livelihood and Food Security Project aims at Improving the livelihood & food security of 13,500 drought affected pastorals in Gardo, Bandar-Beyla, Eyl and Garowe districts in Puntkand, north-eastern Somalia by February 2007. The project will assist in improving household food security, rehabilitating the rural infrastructure and improving range management through cash for work activities and capacity building of communities and local partners. The project will specifically undertake the following activities:

-Facilitate the formation of 4 Pastoral Development Committees (PDCs) – about 20 members per district

-Facilitate the form Pastoral Associations (PAs) for each district – about 10 members per district

-Facilitate the formation of User Committees (UCs) in each district – about 28/30 committees in all

-Support the rehabilitate/construct 80 gully control structures and 70 conservation ponds

The project will provide sub-grants to local partner NGOs and assist them to implement the project activities after through training and capacity building.
