| Project Name: | Civil Society and media in Transition |
| Project Description: |
| The Civil Society and Media in Transition Program aims at strengthening the institutional capacity of local Somali organizations to support peace building and development in partnership with local communities and government. By the end of the program in 2008, Somali Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Media groups will be able to promote peace, social and economic development and democratic governance, have enhanced networking among themselves across regional boundaries and sectoral issues, advocate for the rights of the Somali public and promote processes towards the development of a mutually acceptable regulatory framework for civil society and media in Somalia. Building the capacity of civil society organizations, especially as implementers of relief and development activities, and the integration of creative media initiatives will allow them to stake a claim to a greater role in governance. Through the CSMT program, CARE will provide financial and technical support to 20 CSOs to support community development projects in selected regions of Somalia as entry permit for the greater role of advocacy for peace, reconciliation and good governance. |
