Project Information
| Project Name: | Education Sector Development |
| Project Description: | |
| In its Long Range Strategic Plan (LRSP- 1998- 2003) CARE Tanzania identified "Education Sector" as one of its key programming areas of focus with primary emphasis on Basic Education through formal and non-formal means. This was in response to the appalling conditions in the status of education in Tanzania. After having almost reached Universal Primary Education in the 1980's, the system has now deteriorated drastically with current net enrollments dropping as low as 50% in some areas, meaning half of Tanzania'a school age children are out of school.
What is needed immediately is a professional sector leader for the country office who will lead the growth and development of the sector, take the lead in the implementation of the new strategy and ensure that CARE has the opportunity to participate in and influence National Education Reform. This project supports the position of the Education Sector Co-ordinator who will meet the above need. | |
