Project Name:Child Soldier Demobilization & Reintegration
Project Description:
In collaboration with IFESH, IRC and SAVE UK, CARE will research, design and implement a program for the demobilization and community-based reintegration of former child soldiers. CARE will work in Maniema Province.

Activities inlude:
Assess and document the situation of child soldiers and their communities of origin to determine possibilities for their demobilization and reintegration as a basis for the design of an integrated program to help children leave the armed forces and resume their development within a family and community environment. Conduct trial implementation of the program as designed during the first six months in close collaboration with UNICEF and the national demobilization and reintegration program to ensure consistency and incorporation of lessons learned and best practice in the DRC context. The NGO Group will also contribute to the development of an annex to the national plan on Demobilization and Reinsertion that will be specific to child soldiers.

Goal: Promote demobilization and reintegration of child soldiers in the DRC.

Beneficiaries and location: Direct beneficiaries for the first year will be 733 former child soldiers, their families and communities in the provience of Maniema.
