Project Information

Project Name:Engaging Civil Society for Improved Forest Governance
Project Description:
CARE DRC's Engaging Civil Society for Improved Forest Governance aims to work with civil society in the provinces of Equateur, Maniema and North and South Kivu so that poor and marginalized communities formally engage in and positively influence the implementation of forest policy in the DR Congo. Civil society organizations and social networks at grass roots level that represent the interests of poor and marginalized communities have a low profile and little opportunity to develop and promote a common agenda that reflects the interests of their constituency. Working to strengthen the capacity of grass roots civil society organizations and networks to engage in the development and implementation of forest policy, the project will support forest conservation whilst at the same time promoting social justice and equity with respect to the distribution of costs and benefits associated with sustainable forest management. More specifically, it will work to ensure that marginalized groups, (e.g. women, poor, indigenous people), also participate fully in this process.
