Project Information

Project Name:Rice Promotion
Project Description:
The project goal is to contribute towards attaining household food security amongst a population that is chronically food deficient. This goal is expected to be met through the promotion of agricultural (rice) production in selected areas (wetlands) of two of the drought prone districts of Southern Zambia (Kalomo and Kazungula). Activities will include the distribution of agricultural inputs (rice seed and fertilizer) to 1,000 smallholder farmers and providing them with appropriate technical assistance to maximize production. The expected outputs include increased food availability at household level and increased income from sales of surplus yields. As a consequence of this support, farmers would be expected to achieve about 1 mt/ha. As farmers acquire experience with time, the yields would be expected to increase quite significantly (- ;gt; 1.5 mt/ha).
