Project Title: Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH)
Location: Cambodia
Project Description:
Adolescent Reproductive Health is a three-year European Community/United Nations Population Fund supported project to improve the reproductive health conditions on a sustainable basis among working single adolescents and young adults in Phnom Penh and Battambang. By the end of the project, CARE will have improved the knowledge and awareness of reproductive health among at least 10,000 out-of-school, working single adolescents and young adults, particularly females, as well as trained at least 50 reproductive health providers and educators. In addition, this project will contribute to increasing the availability and utilization of reproductive health services among these single adolescents and young adults working or living near the project's sites. ARH also will work toward building national capacity to generate greater community participation in reproductive health programs and to design, develop and manage similar projects in the future.
Project Title: AIDS/STI Prevention among Truckers (AIDSPAT)
Location: Cameroon
Project Description:
AIDS/STI Prevention among Truckers (AIDSPAT)) works to reduce STI/AIDS transmission among 40,000 truck drivers and forestry company employees and their sexual partners in East province and the city of Douala.
Project Title: Family Planning and HIV/AIDS
Location: Ethiopia
Project Description:
The Family Planning and HIV/AIDS project aims to improve awareness of and access to high quality, voluntary family planning services and reduce the spread of AIDS in the project areas. Working with several local counterparts and Ethiopia's Ministry of Health, CARE aims to reach 394,750 people over a period of five years. Through community-based health promoters, CARE is raising awareness of family planning and AIDS prevention methods in diverse community settings.
Project Title: Wassa West Reproductive Health Project (formerly known as SAPIMA)
Location: Ghana
Project Description:
The overall goal of the Wassa West Reproductive Health project is to assist individuals in the Wassa West District to achieve their reproductive intentions, as well as ensure a reduction in the transmission of HIV/AIDS and other STIs through the promotion of safer sex practices among the mining community. In addition, their partners and the satellite population with dependent economic activities will be covered. This project has a three pronged strategy: 1) information, education and communication (IEC) through trained peer educators and formal care providers aimed at generating demand and linking communities with reproductive health services, 2) establishing additional community based services to improve coverage and outreach, and 3) institutional strengthening of quality of care, supervision and management information systems with partners in the area.

Project Description:
The overall goal of this project is to increase the knowledge of and use of reproductive health services. The intermediate goals are to improve and expand IEC (Information, Education and Communication) activities and services in reproductive health at the community level, and to improve the quality of reproductive health services at the institutional level (e.g., Ministry of Health centers and health posts).
Project Title: Adolescent Girl's Health Project - Jabalpur

Project Description:
The Adolescent Girl's Health project is a six-year project designed to address the reproductive health needs of nearly 32,000 adolescent girls, both married and unmarried, living in the slums of Japalpur city in Madhya Pradesh. CARE trains medical staff, community health workers and traditional birth attendants in adolescent health issues, reproductive health care and birth spacing. The health care workers train adolescent girls who will educate their peers through school and community group meetings. A network of adolescent girls' health guides will be established. In addition, the project will involve adolescent boys, husbands of adolescent girls, parents, teachers and community leaders.
Project Title: Women's Health and Family Spacing Project

Project Description:
Women's Health and Family Spacing project aims to empower 349,000 rural women of reproductive age in Uttar Pradesh to make informed decisions about their reproductive health, including family planning, and to improve their access to quality reproductive health services. The project will also enhance the ability of women (age 15-44) to identify symptoms of common reproductive tract infections and sexually transmitted infections, and to seek and receive appropriate medical assistance.
Project Title: TOUCH 2000
Location: Madagascar
Project Description:
The Urban Health project aims to reduce infant and child mortality among 20,000 children in the 22 poorest, most flood-prone shantytowns of Tananarive. Activities include improving health service delivery, improving community sanitary conditions, building the capacity of local institutions and communities, and improving opportunities for household income. CARE is also the "Resource NGO" for a Neighborhood Initiative Assistance Program that provides local community groups with technical support for the submission, funding, implementation, follow-up and post-project management of small urban development projects.
Project Title: Child Spacing in Nampula
Location: Mozambique
Project Description:
CARE Mozambique's Improved Child Spacing Awareness, Knowledge and Services project is working in Nampula province to increase the use of contraceptives and promote birth spacing in reproductive-age men and women. The project has three primary objectives: 1) increase access to clinic and community-based health services, which offer contraceptive supplies and reproductive health care; 2) increase awareness and knowledge of family planning methods; and 3) strengthen the overall management of family planning services. Project activities include the development of appropriate family planning educational materials and training for health staff, nurses and community-based distributors of family planning information and contraceptives.
Project Title: Four Townships HIV/AIDS Project (Mandalay, Monywa, Lashio, Muse)
Location: Myanmar
Project Description:
This is a comprehensive program for HIV/AIDS prevention, care and counseling in four townships of Myanmar. Target groups include people living with HIV/AIDS and their families, at risk groups and the general population. The focus of this project is training health and medical professionals. Through the successful implementation of this project, the capacity of 20,000-25,000 people to prevent HIV/AIDS will be improved; 700 people living with HIV/AIDS and their families will benefit from a more supportive environment and better care for their health, psychological, and social needs.
Project Title: Child Survival
Location: Nicaragua
Project Description:
The Child Survival project reduces illness and death among 23,885 impoverished mothers, infants and children in 65 rural communities in the department of Matagalpa. Diarrhea and pneumonia kill thousands of infants and children every year in Matagalpa, and the number of mothers who die from complications at birth is the highest in the country. The project focuses on building the capacity of communities to identify and respond to the health and nutritional needs of their poorest residents. The project, in coordination with its partner institution, the Nicaragua Ministry of Health, trains community health workers to become effective health and nutrition educators, covering such topics as prevention and treatment of diarrhea, acute respiratory illnesses, AIDS, malaria and malnutrition. CARE also trains village midwives to carry out safe deliveries and diagnose and refer high-risk pregnancies to a medical facility.
Project Title: Zinder Reproductive Health Project
Location: Niger
Project Description:
The goal of the Zinder Reproductive Health Project is to improve the reproductive health status of women in the Zinder departments of Mirriah, Magaria and Matameye. ZFPP works in 170 villages to promote knowledge and use of family planning methods through IEC (information, education and communication) activities, partnerships/institution strengthening, and increased access to family planning services.
Project Title: Community Reproductive Health
Location: Uganda
Project Description:
Community Reproductive Health project seeks to improve the health status of approximately 769,300 women and men in three districts (Kabale, Kisoro, and Rukungiri) in southwestern Uganda by increasing their access to high-quality family planning and reproductive health services. Working with the Ministry of Health, the project fully integrates family planning services into established health posts. The project will train 375 health workers in 104 facilities, including government, non-governmental and private providers, and provide basic clinical equipment to these facilities. The project will implement basic and clinical skills training and refresher courses for service providers; strengthen counseling services of clinic and community workers; develop strong clinic referral and support supervision systems; educate men, women, adolescents, and community leaders about STIs and provide information on where to seek treatment; provide contraceptives and information on their use; and train community reproductive health workers in the early identification of high-risk mothers and danger signs in pregnancy.
Project Title: Assertiveness Training for Women for Protection from HIV/AIDS

Project Description:
The Assertiveness Training for Women for Protection from HIV/AIDS project addresses the need for information, behavioral change and skills for Vietnamese women to protect themselves against the spread of HIV/AIDS. The project develops and tests assertiveness training manual for distribution throughout Vietnam.
Project Title: Skills Training for Incarcerated Women

Project Description:
The Skills Training for Incarcerated Women project provides computer and business skills training together with health education and assertiveness training for convicted prostitutes in Ho Chi Minh City.
