CARE's Security Unit provides advice, coordination and training to CARE staff in the field in the areas of safety and security. Its responsibilities include:
- Conducting security assessments for regional and country offices, using staff and qualified partners
- Providing resident security expertise
- Developing and implementing CARE safety and security policies and guidelines as well as providing input and representation in interagency efforts to formalize safety and security standards
- Providing assistance to all CARE offices in assessment, implementation of security measures, and training;
- Providing risk-management expertise to assist in CARE emergency response
- Representing CARE at appropriate meetings, conferences, workshops, etc. with interagency working groups, donors, partner organizations and international and governmental organizations
- Coordinating CARE's involvement with national, international, joint and combined military staff
