Rigoberto Giron: Director

As EHAU Director, Rigoberto provides the unit with strategic leadership and management oversight. Rigoberto provides guidance to EHAU's strategic functional areas which include: emergency support services, emergency programming, emergency preparedness planning, and emergency capacity building. In order to move EHAU initiatives forward, Rigoberto provides valuable technical assistance, mobilizes resources, and fosters partnerships with universities and NGOs.

Rigoberto first joined CARE as a consultant helping CARE Honduras improve its emergency response capacity. Later, in April 2001, he was appointed Regional Manager of the Central American Mitigation Initiative until April 2004 when he relocated to Atlanta to assume the Senior Advisor for Emergency Staff Development position within EHAU. Within his EHAU Advisor role Rigoberto was instrumental in the design and implementation of the current Emergency Preparedness Planning efforts and advancement of CARE International's Emergency Capacity Building Strategy. Prior to joining CARE, Rigoberto worked in a variety of management positions in the private sector in his home country, Honduras.


John Solomon: Advisor, Commodity Management and Logistics
John brings years of field experience to EHAU. John contributes to the development of program support solutions for emergency finance, administration, procurement and other supply chain functions, including logistics. He analyzes commodity-management processes and develops logistical support, procedures and systems for CARE, including virtual warehousing; organizes training and learning activities in these areas for CARE personnel; manages an administrative start-up manual used in every CARE country office; assists with general logistics in emergency situations; and monitors and evaluates the current logistics and procurement efforts of the unit. John is often deployed during emergencies to assist with emergency logistics operations.


Ellen Robinson: Administrative Assistant
As administrative assistant, Ellen provides a range of support to the unit director, including scheduling and preparing reports and other documents. Her other duties include supporting unit staff on mission, maintaining files and serving as a contact point during emergencies. Ellen also organizes travel for the unit.


Sara Gullo: Program Officer
Sara serves as Program Officer in the EHAU, where her responsibilities include emergency response support, budget oversight and grant management, Emergency Response Fund administrator, and information management. Prior to working at CARE, Sara worked as a data analyst in CDC's Nutrition Division and as a researcher for an HIV/Family Planning project in Zambia. Sara received her undergraduate degree in anthropology and biology from the University of Michigan and a masters in global public health from Emory University.


Heather Van Sice
Heather is currently serving in Banda Aceh, Indonesia as an Assistant Program Coordiator to the tsunami response. Prior to this work she was EHAU's Iraq Program Officer and focal point for HIV/AIDS in Emergencies.
