As the death toll rises and the floodwaters recede, Hurricane Jeanne's devestation in Haiti is astounding. Water sources are contaminated and pose an immediate health risk to hundreds of thousands of people. Health facilities have been destroyed, just as the risk of water-borne epidemics is skyrocketing. And thousands of households have lost everything.
All tolled, more than 130,000 people are in desperate need of food, shelter and medical attention. And, despite their own loss and trauma, CARE's staff in Haiti is already on the front lines, operating distribution centers for food, clean water and basic supplies.
