global movement for children

The Global Movement for Children (GMC) was created to challenge complacency, increase accountability, bring about real action, and obtain the full commitment of key actors in all sectors of society to make a real difference in the fulfillment of children's rights. GMC is committed to achieving real action at all levels -- from the village to the United Nations. The movement will create a broad movement for and with children, to ensure that every child is free to grow to adulthood in health, peace and dignity.

By initiating a global partnership, Global Movement for Children allows sharing and mutual learning for increased efforts to improve children's lives. Through global and local awareness raising, campaigning, bridge- and capacity-building, the GMC hopes to achieve:

  • Greater respect for children and the contributions they make to their societies;
  • Increased participation by children in decision-making processes that affect them;
  • More determined political will to achieve a better world for children;
  • Increased commitment to and practical action towards fulfilling the Convention on the Rights of the Child;
  • Greater awareness of children's rights and a determination to stop their violation; and
  • Greater accountability of governments, international agencies, the private sector and CSOs in their actions towards children

The member organizations of GMC:

  • BRAC
  • CARE
  • NetAid
  • PLAN International
  • Save the Children
  • United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
