Situation: Battered by intense monsoon rains for nearly two weeks, six districts of this low-lying Asian country have been flooded. Twenty people are dead, and at least 500,000 are homeless after their mud-walled houses collapsed. Rice crops are ruined, and roads and other infrastructure have been severely damaged.
Our Response: Thanks to friends like you, CARE was already at work in Bangladesh, and responded quickly to the situation. We distributed food relief and other emergency supplies to 7,000 families to help them through the aftermath of the crisis. Now we're combating a potentially lethal diarrhea outbreak by distributing oral rehydration salts and information about hygiene and safe drinking water.
