Situation: Steadily declining grain crops in this southern African country threaten to leave even more people hungry in the upcoming "lean season," the time before the next harvest when food stores begin to run out. Seasonal rains have come late, and there's little hope for a successful winter crop.

Our Response: CARE is teaching 8,000 families here how to tend home gardens full of nutritious fruits and vegetables. We're also training 100 families in rainwater catchment techniques to help irrigate these garden plots. Schools have begun using the new growing methods CARE teaches, so students get healthy meals during the day. Thanks for your part in making it happen!
