Thursday, August 7, 2008
7:00 p.m.-8:45 p.m.
Ridgewood Public Library
125 N. Maple Avenue
Ridgewood, NJ (map)

This free event will feature Northern New Jersey residents who will speak about how they are helping those in need and how one person can truly make a difference fighting poverty and injustice worldwide.

Meet Your Local Heroes!

  • Judy Baker volunteers with Houses to Homes and just returned from a two week trip to Guatemala with her son building homes and improving lives for the rural poor.
  • Michael Wegner is a senior in college and helped create Rural Reading Centers in Kenya and Zambia.
  • Sean Camoni has become an advocate for the poor in Washington D.C. after returning from Ghana where he helped produce a film. Now he is an active member of the CARE Action Network and meets regularly with members of Congress about improving the human condition globally.

This event is a great opportunity to hear from individuals making a difference around the world, learn more about CARE’s work and how you can become part of a movement for change.

We hope to see you there!

A Powerful Noise World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival
Friday, May 2, 2008

CARE supporters gathered for a night at the Tribeca Film Festival supporting CARE. The occasion for this special event was a Tribeca Film Festival screening of A Powerful Noise, an inspiring new documentary that showcases three remarkable women and their victories over poverty and oppression.

The night began with a party, where CARE supporters met Jacqueline Dembele, who is featured in the film. Known as "Madame Urbain" to locals, Jacqueline fights forced labor practices and illiteracy in the slums of Bamako, Mali. Following the party, guests attended the screening of A Powerful Noise. The night concluded with a panel discussion at the theater with Jacqueline, the film’s director Tom Capello and producer Scott Thigpen.

The evening was presented in partnership with Ethos Water, Lois Hill and Warburg Pincus.

Walk for Water
Saturday, March 22, 2008

The Walk for Water is inspired by the long journey many women and children must make every day in water-stressed countries. The time spent fetching water for their families prevents them from pursuing an education, maintaining their households or earning additional income.
