Runners CARE race 2001 had over 400 participants. |
Saturday, November 17, 2001, over 400 runners and walkers assembled at the Carter Presidential Center for the Second Annual Runners CARE Five Miler Race. The Race began at 8:30am, with the Race Director, Gary Jenkins firing the starting gun.
The excitement of sponsors, volunteers, and participating runners was palpable on this beautiful brisk, autumn morning. Runners showed their support for CARE’s mission to forge a world of hope, tolerance, and social justice. Thanks to all our supporters, communities that CARE is working with in East Africa will have clean drinking water, and water-borne diseases such as bilharzia, diarrhea, and cholera can be eradicated.
Mr. Cary Ichter of Meadows, Ichter & Trigg; and a member of the Atlanta Committee For CARE present a $12,500 check to Mr. Peter Bell, CARE’s President. The money was raised during the 2001 Runners CARE Race. |
The Runners CARE race is Atlanta's only Five Miler race and is the brainchild of Cary Ichter and the members of the Atlanta Committee for CARE (ACFC), a team of volunteers who work to support CARE within the Atlanta community. This event began in 2000 and was established for two purposes. First, to raise funds that will support water projects in developing countries in Africa and second, to increase the public awareness for CARE's mission while providing a link to Atlanta's ever widening international community. Proceeds from the 2001 race will support clean drinking water projects in Rwanda and Kenya.
