ATLANTA (March 1, 2000) - Coinciding with National Women's History Month, the international relief and development organization CARE is launching CARE for Women, a web site dedicated to the struggles and achievements of women in the developing world. The new site can be found at Care for Women
"By visiting the CARE for Women site, web surfers can get a feel for the many ways CARE is helping women throughout the developing world improve their lives, as well as the lives of their families," says Marilyn Grist, CARE's senior vice president of External Relations. "The CARE for Women web site is devoted to building awareness of the unique challenges facing women in the developing world-while at the same time generating the needed funds to assist them in their struggle to overcome poverty."
Of the more than 1 billion people in the developing world who live on less than $1 a day, 70 percent are women. To change that, CARE is working with women in more than 60 developing countries through programs in health, education, agriculture and natural resources, and small economic activity development.
CARE for Women features news, stories, facts and information on an array of CARE's women-specific projects, as well as personal accounts of CARE's impact on the lives of women worldwide. Women-focused links to other sites also can be found, and visitors are able donate on-line. Special web events, including live chats and online surveys, will be added throughout the year.
