One family of CARE supporters is getting a firsthand look at CARE's projects in the field. They call themselves the Escampettes, after an old French word meaning “to leave abruptly.”
Along the way, they're encountering new people and cultures and providing their own independent account of projects run by CARE and other humanitarian organizations. The Escampettes are documenting their travels and experiences through their newly redesigned website.
Motivated by the goal of instilling in their three children an understanding of the needs of vulnerable people everywhere, the Escampettes have visited CARE projects in East Timor (healthcare and malnutrition education for mothers), Indonesia (Banda Aceh tsunami recovery) and Thailand (AIDS education, outreach, and prevention), as well as other humanitarian projects in Cambodia and Vietnam. “We believe in educating our children differently, through adventure and exposure to cultures,” says father Gilles. “We are hoping they will have a real understanding of the needs of less fortunate people around the world.”
Over the next year, their itinerary will include China, India, Pakistan and the eastern European countries of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Croatia. We'll be updating these pages with more about the Escampettes and their visits to CARE sites around the world. Check back soon!
