CARE Expresses Sorrow over Aid Worker's Death in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan (March 8, 2007) - CARE expresses its profound sorrow at today's killing of an aid worker with aid agency German Agro Action, near Sar-i-Pol, in the northern part of the country. This is the first aid worker to be killed in months.

"The escalating violence has a profound effect on the day to day lives of the Afghan people. It also makes it more difficult for humanitarian organizations to carry out their work assisting Afghan communities in need," said Lex Kassenberg, CARE's country director in Afghanistan. "It is vital that the rule of law take hold in Afghanistan."
