New international food initiative got a political push from Georgia

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution highlighted how several Georgia entities, including CARE and U.S. Sen Johnny Isakson (R-GA), joined forces to get the Global Food Security Act passed by Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama. The bipartisan legislation will reduce food insecurity for the nearly 800 million people worldwide who suffer from chronic hunger. “We really have seen it as an opportunity to be more effective, more transparent and more accountable around U.S. investments in food security,” CARE President and CEO Michelle Nunn told the AJC. The act institutes a comprehensive and coordinated U.S. strategy that focuses on empowering women and local communities to address hunger. Read More
