NPR’s Morning Edition featured an interview with Bushra Aldukhainah, a CARE Yemen regional manager, about conditions in Yemen in the midst of a years-long civil war. Bushra explained the challenges of trying to live in the war-torn country, hoping to realize her dreams while not knowing what the future holds for her family.

When asked about sending her son to school, Bushra said: “this was one of the most challenging and biggest decisions to make because airstrikes were everywhere, [there was] no safe place around.  To make them also comfortable like, no, we have to live with a hope, we have to continue with our lives. If we are dead, we are dead, but we have to live our lives as long as we are still alive.”
