Earthquakes in El Salvador: Experts

Mario Lima, Country Director, El Salvador

Lima oversees CARE programs in El Salvador. During his 10 years with CARE, Lima has worked throughout Central and South America designing programs that improve municipalities' ability to recognize and support the needs of civil society. Lima was the point-person for CARE's emergency response efforts following the Hurricane Mitch disaster in Central America. He is fluent in Spanish.

Colin Beckwith, Deputy Regional Director for Latin America

Beckwith's career in development spans 16 years, working in Central America, Africa and the former Soviet Union. He began his work in 1986 and he has an extensive background in management, program development, strategy creation and facilitation. He is proficient in Spanish and French. He began his work with CARE in 1986.

Allen Clinton, Press Officer

Clinton is CARE's press officer for Latin America and the Caribbean, based in Atlanta. He travels through the region, documenting CARE's emergency relief and self-help development programs. He was formerly a Peace Corps agriculture extentionist in Concepcion, Intibuca in Honduras. He has lived and worked throughout Central America. Spanish/English. He has a Masters degree in Latin America Studies and Economics.

Sonia Silva, Assistant Country Director, El Salvador

Silva has been with CARE less than one year, but as a native of El Salvador she has 10 years of international development experience. Prior to coming to CARE, Silva worked for five years with USAID in El Salvador, overseeing their national reconstruction division, which coordinated programs in education and health for ex-combatants in that country's civil war. Silva also worked in USAID democracy office where she focused on electoral reform and advocacy. Prior to working at USAID, Silva was a program officer for the United Nations Development Programme, where she coordinated housing projects and social reform projects. Silva is fluent in Spanish and English.
