Those are the opening words of a letter handwritten by Helga Kissell, 87 years old. She was writing to Sajeda, a 16-year-old Syrian refugee.

The two have never met, have generations between them but have one major thing in common: they both know the pains of life as a refugee.

Kissell, was 16, when she fled her home in Berlin during World War II. Sajeda and her family fled to Jordan during the ongoing Syrian war.

CARE asked World War II refugees to write letters of hope to Syrian children refugees and they jumped at the chance. Mashable.com shares the stories of the letter writers and their recipients with beautiful photos and a moving video here.
