Michelle Nunn, CARE’s President and CEO, encourages Atlantans to walk for girls at CARE’s Walk In Her Shoes fundraising event in an opinion piece in The Atlanta-Journal Constitution. In the piece, Nunn writes about the barriers girls face and the triumphs they can achieve when given the opportunity through the story of a former child bride she met during a June trip to the West African country of Niger. Forced to marry at 13, Salamatou, later joined a CARE savings group and eventually started a salt business. “I have found a good place now,” she says, having built a thriving business, bought her own home and educated her children.
