This month marks South Sudan’s fourth birthday but there’s not much to celebrate. The world’s youngest country is mired in a civil war that has displaced more than 2 million people and left 7 million without enough food. Holly Frew, CARE’s emergency communications officer, talked to Atlanta news station 11 Alive, to explain the current crisis and what CARE is doing to help. Also on the anniversary of S. Sudan’s independence, Aimee Ansari, CARE’s South Sudan country director told the Associated Press: “the malnutrition numbers that we’re seeing now make me profoundly concerned that too many children in this country won’t reach their fifth birthday.” Read the story here.
