Country Description:
Zimbabwe is a land-locked country in Southern Africa. Its Highveld comprises the major part of the country and includes the two main cities, Harare and Bulawayo. The Lowveld comprises the Sabi-Limpopo valleys in the south and the Zambezi valley in the north. The Eastern Highlands border Mozambique and include the Chimanimani and Inyanga mountain ranges. Zimbabwe has one of the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rates in the world, at 35% of the adult population. This imposes the additional burden of increased expenditure on health care, a reduced skill base, reduced productivity and long-term growth.
CARE started operations in Zimbabwe in 1992 and is currently operational in almost all provinces: Masvingo, Midlands, Bulawayo and Manicaland.
